Scott is an experienced urban planner with more than 18 years in the planning profession.

In his career he has worked in numerous roles including resource consents and compliance areas for the Council, transport planning roles for Auckland Transport, and as a Team Leader in the resource consents department.  He has also worked as a planning consultant both early in his career and at present.

This wide range of experience has exposed him to all facets of planning including:

• Resource consent processes
• Hearings
• Environment Court mediation and hearings
• Plan change processes
• Compliance and enforcement
• Transport planning and strategies

Scott has learnt through his experience that the planning process is essentially about negotiation and dialogue between the parties involved. He believes most problems can be avoided, or worked through, with good initial planning that considers the relevant planning provisions of the Unitary Plan.

Process issues, whether they be with Council officers, at hearings or in mediations, can be worked through with clear and objective communication and through parties being willing to compromise.
